Race # 1 of the New Suffolk Series
Attention skippers and crew: The 2020 PBSA New Suffolk Series will kick off on Sunday, June 7th, weather permitting, with the Ray Krogman Memorial Race. First warning at 2pm for the spinnaker division, as usual. I will be RC on the day and I will send updates as necessary in the days before the race.
Reminder: Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing (“Decision To Race”) states, in its entirety, “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone”.
So whether it’s equipment-related, crew-related or infectious-disease-related, it’s up to you as individual skippers and crew to decide whether - - and how - - to sail.
I will be on station by 1.30pm at the latest and will announce the course on the water. New Suffolk high tide that day is at 1.42pm, so the race will start on a full bay and be raced on the beginning of the ebb.
If you get a chance, please check out the new courses carefully (they’re on the PBSA site) and, ideally, print the one-page course summary to bring on your boat. I will go over marks of the selected course on VHF before the start. -Peter Carroll, Race Committee Chair
