Here are the key facts:
- The start line will be the same as the Wednesday Night Races
- Celia & Mike Withers will be on station and will sound a 5-minute signal (horn) at 2pm and a start signal (horn) at 2.05pm
- Boats will not be checked in
- All boats will start together (there will not be separate starts for spinnaker and non-spinnaker boats)
- The course to be sailed is G4
- For the internet-challenged, G4 is a counter-clockwise course as follows:
-
- START
- G3 (port) - - G3 is ‘North Race’
- N4 (port) - - N4 is SW of G3
- R24 (port) - - R24 is ‘the Windmill Buoy’)
- R20 (port) - - R20 is ‘Nassau Point’
- FINISH
- To FINISH a boat simply needs to cross the START (line in the opposite direction), recording her own FINISH time
- FINISH times should be e-mailed to me or to Mahlon Russell
- There is no post-race party - - not officially anyway, but win-or-lose we encourage you to celebrate
What else? Everyone should have a VHF radio aboard, life-jackets and other appropriate safety gear.
The weather forecast is very nice:
- Winds of 8-13 knots (depending whose forecasting model you believe), generally strengthening from Noon onwards
- Wind direction around Noon will be between W and SW but then will back into SSW by the start, or shortly thereafter
- On-shore temperatures in the 80s but on-the-water temperatures will be a lot lower; very strong sun/UV - - use sun-block
- High tide in New Suffolk will be at 9.59am and low tide at 3.54pm; deep-keel boats should avoid the shallow spots
- Current at Robins Island, south end, will be maximum outbound at 1.02pm (but only ~0.5 kts) and will be slack at 4.34pm, so the entire race will take place on a weak outbound current
Have fun!
Peter
